General Information

Accredited certifiers perform field testing services on Laminar Air Flow Equipment, Clean Rooms and Biological Safety Cabinets in accordance with the following specifications and standards; in addition to manufacturers specifications and requirements:

• Institute of Environmental Sciences - IES-RP-CC-002-86 "Laminar Flow Clean Air Devices"
• National Sanitation Foundation - NSF STD No. 49 "Class II (Laminar Flow) Biohazard Cabinetry"
• Federal Standard Number 209e "Airborne Particulate Cleanliness Classes In Cleanrooms and Clean Zones"
• Underwriter's Laboratories - UL-STD-1262 "Laboratory Equipment"
• Institute of Environmental Sciences - IES-RP-CC-001-86 "Hepa Filters"
• National Institutes of Health - NIH-03-112c "Class II, Type 1 Safety Cabinet"
• National Cancer Institute - NCI Specfication "Class II, Type 2 Safety Cabinet"

The owner of a Biological Safety Cabinet should arrange a performance contract with the company that best suits his needs in terms of cost, availability and capability.
NuAire recommends:

• Every new cabinet must be certified to factory standards after it has been installed at the final site, and after all plumbing/electrical work has been completed.

  Note: Installing workmen have been known to inadvertently damage filters. It is strongly recommended their work be completed prior to certification!

• Cabinets should be recertified to factory standards every 12 months or sooner if the researcher feels it necessary.

IAFCA Certifier Accreditation

International Air Filtration Certifiers Association (IAFCA) is an association of certifiers. Accredited certifiers have successfully passed a written examination. The purpose of IAFCA is to assist air filtration certifiers in achieving the highest level of professionalism by developing and maintaining a substantial certification program. NSF Certifier Accreditation

NSF International Field Certifier Accreditation Program is designed to verify proficiency of individuals who are performing field certification of biohazard cabinets.
