API Powder Biosafety Cabinet Operating Procedure Infographic

The Biosafety Cabinet Operating Sequence for working with cytotoxic API powders involves several steps to ensure safe and aseptic techniques. The process starts with turning on the cabinet blower and lights, checking the air intake and exhaust portals, and disinfecting all interior surfaces. Once materials and equipment are placed onto the work surface, a 2-3 minute air purge is required before beginning work. During work, proper attire and aseptic techniques should be followed, and a non-splash collection vessel should be available to discard excess drug solutions. If an alarm occurs, the work process should be stopped, and the work materials identified at risk. After completing work, a 2-3 minute terminal purging is required, followed by a wipe down of all interior surfaces. Finally, the paper catch/prefilter should be checked and cleaned weekly, and the blower and lights should be turned off.
