Dr. Lora Grainger
Dr. Lora Grainger is an internationally recognized expert in biosafety and biosecurity, with nearly 15 years of experience advancing global biorisk management. She is the Founder, Owner, and CEO of Project SAFE Lab, LLC, a consulting firm dedicated to improving laboratory safety and security worldwide. For the past six years, she has led Project SAFE Lab in supporting U.S. government contracts and subcontracts under Cooperative Threat Reduction initiatives. Her work has included close collaboration with key implementers such as CRDF Global (as an Affiliated Expert) and Health Security Partners (HSP), delivering training, risk assessments, and strategic guidance to high-consequence bioscience laboratories.
Before founding Project SAFE Lab, Dr. Grainger served as a Senior Engineering Program & Project Lead at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), where she played a leading role in the development of the Global Biorisk Management Curriculum (GBRMC), spearheaded BRM trainer development programs, and mentored laboratories around the world. She is also a contributing author to the foundational text Laboratory Biorisk Management: Biosafety and Biosecurity, where she co-wrote the chapter on biorisk management training.
Dr. Grainger holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Arizona, where her research focused on virology and the latency factors of Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV).
