PharmaGard Restricted Access Barrier Systems (RABS) Brochure
NuAire PharmaGard isolators are Restricted Access Barrier Systems (RABS) that maintain an ISO Class 5, HEPA-filtered sterile environment for compounding hazardous and non-hazardous drugs. The portfolio includes three standard models: NU-PR797 for USP 797 non-hazardous compounding, NU-NR800 and NU-NTE800 for USP 800 hazardous drug handling, plus custom configurations (NU-LXXX).
PharmaGard Compounding Aseptic and Containment Isolators
NuAire’s PharmaGard family of Restricted Access Barrier Systems provides health system pharmacies with the Primary Engineering Controls (PECs) and Containment Primary Engineering Controls (C-PECs) required to prepare Compounded Sterile Preparations (CSPs) in compliance with USP <797> and USP <800>. Manufactured in Plymouth, Minnesota and backed by NuAire’s 50+ years of containment expertise as part of the Kewaunee Scientific family, PharmaGard isolators are engineered to minimize contamination risk and maximize technician safety and comfort in the compounding environment.
Choose the Right Model for Your Pharmacy
PharmaGard RABS are available in four configurations to match your workflow and compliance requirements:
NU-PR797 Compounding Aseptic Isolator (CAI)
Positive pressure, recirculating design for USP <797> sterile, non-hazardous drug compounding. Available in 4 ft and 6 ft widths.
NU-NR800 Compounding Aseptic Containment Isolator (CACI)
Negative pressure, recirculating design for USP <800> sterile, hazardous drug compounding. Available in 4 ft and 6 ft widths.
NU-NTE800 Compounding Aseptic Containment Isolator (CACI), Total Exhaust
Negative pressure, total exhaust design for USP <800> sterile, hazardous drug compounding with duct exhaust to facility. Available in 4 ft and 6 ft widths.
NU-LXXX Custom Configuration
Custom equipment built to your unique medication workflow and compounding protocol. Contact NuAire for a bespoke solution.
Engineered for the Compounding Environment
Every PharmaGard model delivers true HEPA-filtered laminar airflow at 20 air changes per minute within both the work zone and interchange areas, assuring ISO Class 5 conditions. The airflow system uses a HEPEX Zero Leak design: air passes through the work area, splits front-to-rear, travels under the work tray, and up the rear divider panel for recirculation or exhaust. Supply and exhaust HEPA filters are rated 99.99% efficient at 0.3 micron, and all models are UL Listed.
PharmaGard isolators are engineered for the people who use them every day. An adjustable base stand supports sit-or-stand use across a range of heights, maximizing knee and thigh clearance for improved posture. The expanded work zone and large oval glove ports reduce arm, neck, and shoulder strain, and three IV bar locations with six hooks provide proper compounding reach and height. A ball-bearing sliding work tray and counterbalance inner transfer window, with security interlock on NR and NTE models, provide smooth, controlled material transfer while maintaining sterile integrity.
The Electronic Control System (ECS) features a FlowGard OLED screen, easy-read on/off switches, and mini-helic gauges to monitor pressures in both the work zone and interchange areas. The PharmaGard Digital Monitor (standard on NU-NR800 and NU-NTE800; optional on NU-PR797) uses a digital pressure transducer with color-coded LED status indicators: green for acceptable pressure, yellow for caution, and red for alarm. An audible alarm activates when pressure falls outside the set range.
Additional capabilities include an integrated sharps and waste disposal system with two waste containers accessible through covered negative-pressure drop tubes, optional video surveillance cameras for compounding documentation and spill monitoring, and a monitor and keyboard/mouse arm for real-time SOP access during compounding. NuAire also offers a full range of accessories including video camera mounts, stainless steel turntables, adjustable footrests, flex duct connections, manual or automatic butterfly valves, and storage pull-out trays so every PharmaGard can be configured to your pharmacy’s exact protocol.
Each PharmaGard RABS is Energy Star qualified and RoHS compliant. US and Canadian customers receive a 3-year warranty covering parts, labor, and filters. International customers receive a 4-year parts and filters warranty. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a PharmaGard CAI and CACI?
A Compounding Aseptic Isolator (CAI), such as the NU-PR797, uses positive pressure to protect non-hazardous sterile preparations in compliance with USP <797>. A Compounding Aseptic Containment Isolator (CACI), such as the NU-NR800 or NU-NTE800, uses negative pressure to contain hazardous drugs and protect both the product and the technician, in compliance with USP <800>. CACIs require exhaust, either recirculating (NR800) or total exhaust via duct connection (NTE800).
Does the PharmaGard meet USP 797 and USP 800 requirements?
Yes. The NU-PR797 is designed for USP <797> compliance for sterile, non-hazardous drug compounding. The NU-NR800 and NU-NTE800 are designed for USP <800> compliance for hazardous drug handling. All models maintain ISO Class 5 sterile conditions, and CACIs are tested to CETA CAG-002.
What sizes are available?
The NU-PR797, NU-NR800, and NU-NTE800 are each available in 4-foot (1.2 m) and 6-foot (1.8 m) nominal sizes, each with an auto-lift adjustable base stand included. Custom configurations (NU-LXXX) can be built to workflow-specific dimensions.
What is the PharmaGard warranty?
US and Canadian customers receive a 3-year warranty covering parts, labor, and filters. International customers receive a 4-year warranty covering parts and filters. Contact your local NuAire distributor for international warranty details.
Can PharmaGard isolators be customized?
Yes. NuAire offers a wide range of built-in options including video surveillance cameras, monitor and keyboard/mouse arms for SOP documentation, integrated sharps and waste disposal, storage pull-out trays, adjustable footrests, stainless steel turntables, flex duct connections, and manual or automatic butterfly valves. Custom work zone heights and other bespoke configurations are also available. Contact NuAire or your local sales partner for details.
